Some patients with metastatic tumors of the spine develop pessimistic thoughts, thus adopting negative emotions and not continuing treatment. Because of the collapse of psychological defense and the torment of physical pain and paraplegia, the patient will soon reach the end of life. It is not known that metastatic tumors in the spine can still be treated aggressively and can improve the quality of survival and prolong the life of the patient. The objectives of spinal metastatic tumor treatment are as follows: 1) to stabilize the spine and relieve the pain; 2) to relieve the compression of the spinal cord by the tumor or bone mass, and to relieve the latter to prevent paraplegia and nerve compression; 3) to remove the metastases and increase the sensitivity of the surrounding satellite foci to radiotherapy; 4) for metastases with unknown primary foci, the pathological diagnosis and the origin of the tumor tissue can be clarified through surgery, so as to further guide the treatment.
