The most serious degree of scalp injury is a scalp avulsion. As the blood supply to the head is very rich, a large scalp avulsion can cause massive bleeding in a very short period of time and is very difficult to stop, which can easily lead to a reduction in the patient’s blood volume and even shock. In addition, the extent of a large avulsion injury is more severe and can cause a localised defect in the scalp which, if not properly controlled at a later stage, may lead to scalp wound infection and even life-threatening.
