Mumps incubation period of a few days

Mumps has an incubation period of 2-4 weeks and is a respiratory infection caused by the mumps virus, which is mainly spread by droplet transmission and can be prevented by vaccines. The clinical symptoms of mumps are mainly swelling of the parotid gland centered on the earlobe, usually on one side, gradually progressing to the other side, centered on the earlobe forward, backward, and downward, and occurring mainly in children and adolescents. Mumps can develop throughout the year, but mainly in the winter and spring, with outbreaks occurring in crowded areas such as military barracks, classrooms, and kindergartens. Mumps can be followed by lasting immunity, even lifelong immunity, and reinfection is extremely rare. Mumps patients can be a source of infection and are most contagious from 1-2 days before to 5 days after the onset of the disease.
