Is a child’s vision of 4.8 myopic?

A child’s vision of 4.8 is not necessarily myopic, and children under 8 years of age with vision less than 4.8 is normal and usually improves gradually as the eye develops. At the age of 1-2 years old, children have about 0.2-0.3 vision, at the age of 3-4 years old they have about 0.6 vision, at the age of 4-5 years old they have about 0.7 vision, and at the age of 6-7 years old they have about 0.8-1.0 vision, which is basically the normal standard. Therefore, it is possible that children under the age of 8 with less than 4.8 vision are normal. However, if parents find that their child’s binocular vision gap is large or their vision is significantly lower than that of their peers, they need to pay attention to the possibility of refractive error. When children 8 years old and above have a visual acuity of 4.8 or other abnormalities, it is recommended that they visit an ophthalmologist for dilated pupil examinations and other tests to determine whether they have refractive errors.
