Is a child’s vision of 4.8 myopic?

It is not possible to generalize whether a child’s vision of 4.8 is myopic. Nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism can all lead to lower than normal vision. Children have about 0.2-0.3 vision at age 1-2, 0.6 vision at age 3-4, 0.7 vision at age 4-5, and basically normal vision at about 0.8-1.0 at age 6-7. Therefore, a vision of 4.8 in a child under 5 may be normal. However, if parents find that their child’s binocular vision gap is large, or the vision is significantly lower than that of their peers, they need to pay attention to the possible existence of refractive error. Therefore, when children aged 5 and above have a visual acuity of 4.8 or other abnormalities, it is recommended that they promptly visit the ophthalmology department of a hospital for dilated eye examinations and other tests to determine whether refractive errors may exist.
