Advantages of Chinese medicine for recurrent genital herpes

Genital herpes, mostly caused by the herpes simplex 2 virus, but some people are also caused by the herpes simplex 1 virus. Some people develop herpes simplex on the buttocks, which also slowly migrates to the genital area and causes genital herpes. The herpes virus is usually confined to the local area, but can also spread throughout the body by blood and lymphatic dissemination. If it spreads into the blood, the whole body will have flu-like symptoms and fever will develop, but clinically most patients have lesions confined to the genital area. Herpes viruses are difficult to kill completely and are extremely prone to recurrence, commonly known as hepatitis B virus, immunodeficiency virus, and various influenza viruses, etc. Therefore, viral skin diseases are difficult to cure completely. Western medicine often uses immune-enhancing drugs, such as thymidine, transfer factor, thin glucose peptide, etc.; anti-viral drugs, such as interferon, acyclovir, famciclovir, ganciclovir, adenosine, sodium phosphonate, etc. for treatment, the skin lesions can be cured. However, if irregular life, drinking alcohol, staying up late, prolonged diarrhea, and female patients’ menstrual period can cause immune deficiency, the skin lesions will recur. Once relapsed, the frequency will gradually increase, with some patients relapsing once a month and some persisting for a long time, causing a serious social and family burden. Especially for young female patients, it can affect fertility. Therefore, Western medical treatment alone cannot solve the problem of herpes recurrence. Chinese medicine uses both symptomatic and primary methods of treatment according to the different periods of genital herpes. In the acute phase, blisters and pains appear on the genital area, because the liver meridian surrounds the yin organ and blisters occur when damp heat from the liver meridian is injected, so the main treatment is to clear the damp heat from the liver meridian and to detoxify the rest. Once the acute period is over, the patient’s body constitution will be improved to prevent recurrence. If the patient has chronic loose stools or intestinal inflammation, most of them are caused by deficiency of spleen qi and sunken middle qi, so the main treatment should be to strengthen the spleen; if the patient has lumbago and back pain, most of them are treated from the kidney, so we should identify whether the patient has kidney yin deficiency or kidney yang deficiency and treat them separately; if the patient has nervousness, poor sleep at night, red tongue and yellow urine, most of them are caused by non-interaction between the heart and kidney, so we should clear heart fire and nourish kidney yin or warm kidney yang; if the female patient often relapses before and after menstruation, most of them are caused by dysregulation of the flush and the body. Most of them are caused by the imbalance of the flushing and regulating the flushing. Chinese medicine takes a holistic approach to regulate the balance of yin and yang, and has achieved remarkable results clinically. Most patients basically control recurrence or achieve no recurrence after 2-3 months of treatment.
