Patients with fava bean disease mainly present with symptoms associated with acute intravascular haemolysis. In mild cases, the symptoms include fatigue, dizziness, anorexia, nausea and vomiting, followed by jaundice and haemoglobinuria; in severe cases, oliguria, anuria, acidosis and acute renal failure may occur. Overall, however, the disease is often self-limiting and the triggers need to be removed promptly.
