As mentioned earlier, “milk consumption” is basically gone now, replaced by anorexia nervosa. So what is anorexia? Anorexia nervosa is commonly referred to as not eating, picky eating, and partial eating, and it can only be diagnosed if it lasts for at least 2 months. In fact, the judgment of anorexia nervosa is very vague, unlike the judgment of fever, for example, the anal temperature over 37.5 degrees is fever, the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa does not have such precise quantitative indicators. Most children develop this condition more or less at some point during their growth. We can only offer a vague judgment. If your child eats very slowly, in small amounts, is severely paranoid and picky, if so, we can generally tell that he or she may have anorexia. If you want to further ask me to tell you how slow is considered slow and how much less is considered little, I can’t give you an exact figure, I can only say that one or two hours per meal is considered slow and only a few bites is considered little. You may not be satisfied with this, I can only say that you can refer to other normal children, normal eating should be very cool to eat, is about half an hour to eat, the amount is not too small, not picky, not partial food. There is no accurate medical standard for this. The point is not to be rigid about this diagnosis, but under what circumstances you need to take him or her to the doctor. If your child is anorexic and is significantly lagging in physical development, has decreased resistance and is easily sick, you need to take him or her to the doctor. The two most direct consequences of anorexia for children are that it affects physical development and that it affects resistance. There are criteria for determining physical development: height and weight, and for poor resistance, the diagnostic criteria for “recurrent respiratory infections”. There is a general formula for height: age*7+70(cm) and weight: age*2+8(kg). This is the formula for children over 2 years old. These two formulas are an average formula, and for developed places (such as Shanghai), the two indicators should be raised a little. If your child eats very little and very slowly, but he/she grows strong and is not very sick, you don’t need to deal with this situation. For the treatment of anorexia nervosa, we have three main points: one is acupuncture of the four suture points, the second is medicine, and the third is the adjustment of eating habits. The acupuncture points have already been described, so we will not go into detail here. For medication, your primary care physician will give you the appropriate medication for your child’s condition. The adjustment of eating habits is the most important thing that you should pay attention to as a parent at the moment. There are many one-child families and many young parents simply do not know how to feed their children. We provide a general principle here: don’t eat each meal for too long, half an hour, no force-feeding, meat and vegetables, don’t eat too much in two meals, try not to eat snacks, milk depends on the age of the child, but at least once. However, according to my clinical observation for many years, even so, many children’s meal situation still does not reach the ideal state. However, this is not an excuse to give up our efforts and we still have to try to treat them, especially for those children with low physical development and resistance. I recommend treatment for 1 month to 2 months.
