Degenerative changes in the spine and strain affect the thickening of the vertebral plates and the hyperplasia of the vertebral body, resulting in volume reduction and narrowing of the spinal canal, hyperplasia of the articular process and hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum, causing compression of the cauda equina and nerve roots, resulting in low back pain and numbness and pain in the lower extremities. Recent studies have shown that numbness and pain in the lower extremities in lumbar spinal stenosis are closely related to reduced blood flow in the neurotrophic vessels accompanying the cauda equina and nerve roots. Not only the compression of the cauda equina and nerve roots, but also the compression of the neurotrophic vessels accompanying the cauda equina and nerve roots can aggravate the numbness and pain in the lower extremities.
