Can I get married and have children with SLE?

Most of the patients with lupus erythematosus are young women who are in the age of love, marriage and childbirth. As long as the disease activity is controlled and the disease is stable, it is possible to get married. Pregnancy and childbirth are also possible, but there is a prerequisite that the patient’s condition must be stable. Because of the high mortality rate of lupus erythematosus patients in the past, there was a sense of horror, even comparing it to cancer. In the last 20 years, thanks to the rapid development of clinical immunology, early diagnosis and treatment of the disease is no longer a challenge. Most patients can have their disease under control if they receive proper diagnosis and treatment from doctors, especially if they adhere to long-term follow-up. At present, the 10-year survival rate of SLE patients in China is over 84%. Pregnancy can be considered when the following conditions are met: 1. after regular treatment, the disease has been stable for one year or more, and the maintenance dose of prednisone is less than 15 mg; 2. there are no serious organ lesions caused by the disease; 3. there are no serious side effects caused by glucocorticoids; 4. the cytotoxic immunosuppressants (cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, total glucosamine, etc.) are stopped for at least six months; 5. there is no significant renal dysfunction. 5. No significant renal dysfunction.
