American Cancer Society Recommendations for Nutrition and Physical Activity Guidelines for Cancer Prevention

1. Recommendations for individuals A healthy body mass should be maintained at all times. Within the normal body mass range [body mass index (BMI) of 19-24 kg/m2] keep body mass as low as possible; avoid any increase in body mass at any time, for those who are currently overweight (BMI of 25-29 kg/m2) or obese (BMI of 30-35 kg/m2), any little reduction in body mass is beneficial to health and a good start; perform regular physical Physical activity and limiting the intake of high-energy diets and beverages as key strategies for maintaining a healthy body mass. Adults should engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of high-intensity physical activity, or an equivalent combination of the two, spread out over a week; children and adolescents should engage in at least 1 hour of moderate-intensity or high-intensity physical activity each day, and at least 3 days per week of high-intensity physical activity; reduce static activities such as sitting, lying down, and watching TV; and do more physical activity in general life. Choose a healthy diet, especially a plant-based diet that maintains a healthy body mass; limit intake of processed and red meats; consume at least 2.5 servings of vegetables and fruits per day (1 serving is equivalent to about one medium-sized apple, 8 strawberries, 12 baby carrots, or 1 large tomato); choose whole grains rather than fine grains. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages. No more than 1 drink per day for women and no more than 2 drinks per day for men [1 drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80° white wine ( 1 ounce = 30ml)] 2. Recommendations for social groups From the state to the community, government, individuals and social organizations work collaboratively to provide good policies and environments to increase access to affordable, healthy foods in community workplaces and schools. Reduce access to and marketing of foods and beverages of low nutritional value, especially for young people; provide safe, comfortable and accessible environments for transportation and recreation in schools and workplace physical activity communities.
