Injectable breast implant removal surgery: be sure to remove the envelope

Over the past decade or so, hundreds of thousands of women in China have received injectable breast implants using the now banned polyacrylamide hydrogel, known by the trade name of “Ingelfahrer” or “Omnidine”. These injected materials, as they remain in the body for a longer period of time, may have different degrees of hardening, deformation, displacement, pain, swollen lymph nodes and other symptoms, at this time, it is time to resolve to remove the injected materials. There are two different opinions on the method of surgery: some doctors simply rinse it and it is over; while most doctors now agree that the envelope of the injected material needs to be completely removed, which will extend the operation time by 2-4 hours and make the operation steps much more complicated, but it is definitely worth these troubles for the following reasons: 1. No residue: The envelope is the inflammatory reaction of the injected material mixed in the surrounding tissues and produced by the product. If the envelope is left behind, it will result in a considerable amount of residual injected material and the possibility of future inflammatory granulomas, manifested as palpable masses and persistent painful symptoms. Once the resistance is reduced, there is also a risk of enlargement and inflammation. 2.No misses: The process of removing the envelope is a careful sweeping process, any small injection cavity that is not easily perceptible, small displacement of injection material, will not be missed, only then is it called complete removal. If the envelope is not removed, the injection material that is not cleaned will continue to precipitate and cause new troubles. 3.No cancer: At present, there is no definite conclusion on whether the long-term retention of injected materials in the body will cause lesions. The only solution is to remove as much as possible of the injected material and send it for pathological examination, so that it is clear that there are no lesions. 4.No disturbance: Only after the injected material and the envelope are removed together, only normal tissues are left in the breast, and the wound will heal easily and will not be prone to the problems of persistent seroma and non-closure of the cavity. Therefore, before considering breast injection material removal, please make sure to discuss clearly with your doctor and design a reasonable surgical plan to remove the envelope together as much as possible for safety and peace of mind.
