How long is the recovery period for a second degree meniscus injury?

The recovery time varies depending on the treatment measures for second degree meniscus injuries. The recovery period is about 3 months for conservative treatment patients and about 2 months for surgical treatment patients. During conservative treatment of second degree meniscus injury, patients should take rest, keep warm, prevent strenuous activities, elevate the affected limb appropriately to promote blood circulation, wear knee brace for protection, apply local heat or use acupuncture and other Chinese physical therapy measures, take anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving drugs, and do not over-extend or over-flex. If conservative treatment is not effective, surgery should be performed as soon as possible. Postoperative care of the affected limb can speed up the recovery of meniscus injury. Patients with meniscus injury also need to undergo MRI review. Strenuous activity is not recommended after recovery from a second degree meniscus injury to avoid knee sprain and further damage to the meniscus. If further damage to the second degree injury becomes a third degree injury, surgical treatment is required, otherwise the damage to the joint is more severe.
