Can patients with pituitary tumors recover from optic nerve damage?

Patient: pituitary tumor discovered in 2003, basically undiagnosed, at first bilateral temporal hemianopia, then now one side vision is gone. Drowsiness not sure if it is because of the tumor or what, obesity. Has not been seen because of family financial situation. I don’t know if the optic nerve damage can be recovered?

Doctor: If the optic nerve damage is very serious, generally speaking, it is not very easy to recover.
