How long does pulmonary fibrosis last?

It is not possible to generalize how long pulmonary fibrosis will last, it can be decades for the longest and months for the shortest. There are more than 200 types of pulmonary fibrosis known, with different causes (some with no cause found) and different survival times. 1. Secondary pulmonary fibrosis: Some patients with pulmonary fibrosis will be stable for a long time and progress slowly. For example, chronic lung diseases, such as some viral and bacterial infections caused by pulmonary fibrosis, active control of the original disease, as well as timely treatment, if the disease course is long. Some patients can live with the disease for decades. 2. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: some of them do not have a clear cause, such as idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, the prognosis is poor, the median survival is only 3-5 years. In the case of acute interstitial pneumonia, survival is very short, less than a few months in severe patients. Once pulmonary fibrosis occurs, you should actively seek medical treatment to clarify the cause of pulmonary fibrosis, and then treat the cause afterwards.
