Pre-treatment screening for tumors should be taken seriously!

Recently, many patients and family members called to consult, and most of them complained about the difficulties and long waiting time for hospitalization in our department after the explanation of their conditions, and sometimes I was rather helpless to answer. From my clinical experience in recent years, I feel more and more deeply that details determine success or failure. In general, doctors can grasp the treatment guidelines and procedures of common tumors correctly. But how to give the fastest, most comprehensive and accurate treatment, these details are the key to determine the level of doctors. Take nasopharyngeal cancer as an example, some patients often don’t understand why they have been diagnosed in local hospitals, but why we have to continue to improve nasopharyngeal MRI and nasopharyngoscopy, etc., which are briefly written below. 1.Why should we review nasopharyngeal laryngoscopy? Because, our nasopharyngoscope can give clear pictures, and the lumpectomy experts are very experienced and can accurately describe the extent of lesion involvement, which greatly helps to outline the target area of radiotherapy. 2.Why should we check nasopharyngeal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)? There are often complex “channels” between the nasopharynx and surrounding structures, and cancer cells often extend their invasion, which is information that CT cannot give. The information given by MRI before radiotherapy is also necessary to accurately determine the scope of radiotherapy. 3.Why should we treat teeth in the mouth? Nasopharyngeal cancer has good treatment effect and most of the patients can survive for a long time. However, during radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer, the jaws will inevitably receive high doses of radiation. If there are potentially damaged teeth, such as root stumps and caries, they often recur after radiotherapy and even cause jaw necrosis. Thorough treatment of the oral cavity before radiotherapy can minimize these sequelae and give the patient the best quality of life. There are other series of questions: why do you have to review your hospital after local gastroscopy; why do you have to review rectal MRI after local pelvic CT …… etc. Thinking about it differently, I understand the doubts of patients and families. But please patients should also understand that the level of hospital treatment is definitely not determined by a particular individual doctor. I am very sure that our MRI and lumpectomy are first-class in China, and it is the guarantee of these accurate examinations that lays the foundation for more accurate development of patient treatment plans. These seemingly repetitive times are worth the wait! In fact, misunderstandings often come from not knowing, when you have doubts about the examination, you may want to consult the doctor you see, I believe he will give you the most satisfactory answer. It would be a great pity to sharpen your knife and not just go for speed and have a problem with the important diagnosis and staging.
