When it comes to “blood and knife” surgery, people shudder. We also know that anesthesia is essential for painful surgery. In fact, with the continuous progress of medical technology, many surgeries can be done “easily” without anesthesia, such as the colorectal polypectomy under colonoscopy that we introduce below. Colon polyps are proliferative lesions that occur in the mucosa of the colon and can cause blood in the stool, abdominal pain, diarrhea and other symptoms. In particular, colonic adenomatous polyps are often regarded as precancerous lesions because of their close relationship with the occurrence of colon cancer. Therefore, once polyps are found, they are always recommended to be removed. Colorectal polypectomy under colonoscopy makes use of the fact that the colon is connected to the outside world through the anus, and the colon, being innervated by the visceral nerves, has no painful reaction to knife cutting or electrocautery. Therefore, without anesthesia and without opening the abdomen, the colonoscope is inserted from the anus, advances along the intestinal cavity, and after the polyp is found, the surgical catheter with the outer end connected to the high-frequency electrical generation device is sent from the internal cavity of the colonoscope to the top of the polyp in preparation for surgery. If the polyp is flat, the high-temperature probe at the front of the catheter is used to cauterize the polyp directly; if it is tipped, a collar is extended from the front of the catheter to cover the root of the polyp tip, tighten the collar, and when there is resistance, the collar is closed while electrocoagulating to remove it completely. Because high temperature coagulation is used, cutting and hemostasis are carried out simultaneously, and can truly achieve no blood dripping. The procedure is completed and the colonoscope is withdrawn. The patient was able to walk on the floor and move freely without any pain. It is worth mentioning that the whole operation is performed completely under the direct vision of the colonoscope, which has the function of image magnification, which reduces the difficulty of the operation and increases the accuracy of the operation.
