What are the drugs used to treat epilepsy

Clinical antiepileptic drugs are mainly divided into three categories: 1) first-line antiepileptic drugs, mainly sodium valproate, magnesium valproate, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin sodium; 2) second-line antiepileptic drugs, such as ethosuximide, paracetamol, etc.; 3) new antiepileptic drugs, such as lamotrigine, oxcarbazepine, levetiracetam and topiramate. Currently, the first class of drugs, i.e. first-line antiepileptic drugs and new antiepileptic drugs, and benzodiazepine anxiolytics, such as diazepam, clonazepam, etc. are more commonly used in clinical practice for epilepsy treatment. The medication cycle does not exceed 3-6 months because the drugs are tolerated and dependent. Diazepam injections can be used for the treatment of persistent epilepsy, and clonazepam can be used for the treatment of petit mal seizures.
