Congenital respiratory disorders: mainly seen in infants and children, especially up to 1 year of age. The Gormley study reported that 75% of children with tracheoesophageal flaccidity (second only to congenital vascular malformation) presented with persistent cough, and the mechanism may be related to tracheal flaccidity obstructing the discharge of secretions and inflammatory damage to the terminal bronchi.
