Do you still need surgery after taking Gleevec?

The patient was diagnosed with rectal mesenchymal tumor at the end of October 10, and it is only 4cm away from the anus. He started to take Gleevec at the beginning of 2011 and has been taking it for more than a year. Now he has stopped taking it. The MRI results are: no significant thickening. Do I still need surgery in this case? The patient’s mesenchymal tumor is growing in the anterior rectal wall, near the urethra. So should I operate or should I follow the prevention? Is it possible that recurrence may occur in case of poor health? Will the surgery affect the urethra if it recurs? Is it possible to preserve the anus?  Treatment (current medication or recent surgery): I have been taking Gleevec for over a year.
