Acupuncture combined with pelvic floor muscle training for stress urinary incontinence

  Stress urinary incontinence is a symptom of involuntary urine leakage in middle-aged and elderly women due to loss of control of the bladder sphincter caused by flaccidity of the pelvic floor muscles; patients usually present with leakage occurring under coughing or exertion.  Specific diagnostic criteria are as follows: 1. Symptoms Involuntary leakage of urine when various degrees of abdominal pressure such as laughing, coughing, sneezing or walking are increased; urine flow is then terminated when the pressure action is stopped; 2. Signs Involuntary leakage of urine from the urethra can be observed when the abdominal pressure is increased (pressure-induced test) or positive weight gain >10g in the 1h urine pad test; 3. No concomitant symptoms of urinary frequency and urgency.  The treatment methods are as follows: 1. Acupuncture treatment: select the kidney, secondary s, Sanyinjiao, Qihai, Guangyuan and other points, can be combined with moxibustion treatment, once every other day, 3 times / week, 10 times as a course of treatment.  2.Pelvic floor muscle training (kegel method) Take any position such as standing, supine and sitting, empty the bladder, knees together. Contract the pelvic floor muscles for 10 seconds, relax for 10 seconds and repeat the above actions under the guidance of the instructor. Continue for 15 minutes for one session . For the convenience of exercise, the duration of one pelvic floor muscle contraction is two breaths, based on a breathing time of about 6s for normal people.
