For different causes of white stools, there are slight differences in the tests required. For example, if white stools are suspected to be caused by bile duct cancer, imaging tests such as CT and ultrasound should be done to aid diagnosis; if white stools are suspected to be caused by congenital biliary atresia in children, serological tests and cholecystocentesis should be done to aid diagnosis.
