Treatment of spinal tuberculosis in children

The child was a 7-year-old male who presented to the clinic with lumbosacral pain and discomfort. CT showed destruction of the sacral vertebrae, dead bone, and a huge lumbaris major abscess: MRI showed good curvature of the lumbosacral vertebrae, no collapse of the vertebral structure, and abscess as the main manifestation: the child had no discomfort other than occasional lumbosacral pain, and walking and activities were unimpeded. The vertebral curvature and bone contour were good, and conservative treatment was preferred despite the presence of abscess and dead bone. Due to the large abscess, ultrasound-guided puncture and drainage was done to promote abscess healing. One year later, the abscess was absorbed, and although the “dead bone” was still visible, the lesion was stilled and healing was achieved, and the child recovered well without functional impairment.
