A low-fibre, low-fat, high-calorie as well as high-protein diet, such as freshwater fish, lean meat and eggs, is recommended and may reduce lactose intake.
1. A low-fibre diet will improve the symptoms of diarrhoea with radiotherapy and will also prevent hard stools from repeatedly rubbing against the damaged rectal mucosa, causing pain and bleeding.
2. A low-fat diet will reduce the symptoms of intestinal discomfort.
3. A high protein, high calorie diet will improve malnutrition and provide the body with the necessary energy.
4. Limiting lactose intake will reduce diarrhoeal symptoms in patients with combined lactose intolerance.
