Are people with borderline personality disorder prone to suicide?

Borderline personality disorder is a classification of personality disorder that is a risk factor for suicidal behaviour, especially in adolescents.
The proportion of women who present with suicidal behaviour in borderline personality disorder is more than twice that of men.
The disorder is a generalised pattern of interpersonal, self-imagery and emotional instability with marked impulsivity, manifested mainly by disturbed self-identity, unstable and rapidly changing state of mind, significant separation anxiety, conflicting intimate relationships, impulsive, stressful psychotic symptoms, and should be treated promptly.
