Some common misconceptions in orthopaedic rehabilitation

1, eat where to make up: often see patients with fractures pinching their noses and drinking oily bone soup, patients with ligament soft tissue injuries chewing pig’s hands and goat’s feet (Hui people friends please understand). As the saying goes, eat where to tonic, bone soup and pig’s hand and goat’s foot really contain calcium and collagen necessary for bone and soft tissue healing? After normal digestion and absorption, the nutrients inside are basically not much different from ordinary food. Excessive fat and cholesterol intake and decreased exercise may also lead to a significant weight gain, thus increasing the burden on the joints. In this way, our efforts can be more than worth the loss. In fact, after the injury, we just need to eat normally, increase nutrition appropriately, supplement more high-protein, low-fat food, to ensure that the daily activities of physical strength is sufficient. 2, rub comfortable: as we all know, the functional exercises of orthopedic injuries often require pain, in daily life, the discomfort of damaged limbs often plague these unfortunate people. So, often see a lot of patients, in addition to practice function, with hands constantly in the uncomfortable place repeatedly rubbing massage, ask their feelings: rub comfortable! Is that so? Constant massage will lead to congestion around the injured joint, especially the swollen soft tissues, increasing inflammatory exudation, resulting in increased swelling and pain, and it won’t take long after the massage stops for all kinds of increased discomfort to reappear. So that when discomfort occurs, the best way is to ice, rest, to keep the hands as far away from the injured parts as possible, so that these parts are fully rested, “sleep well”. 3, as soon as possible off the crutches: for patients with lower limb injuries, crutches are really love and hate, especially to the late stage of rehabilitation, crutches this thing is annoying to look at, too heavy to hold, too ugly to use, there is always a feeling of being disabled. Actually not! Crutches as the most common lower limb mobility aids, has its very important role in reality. During the dysfunction of the joints of the lower limbs, the lower limbs as the only reliance on human activities, still have to bear the normal weight, and its burden will not be reduced because of injury, but because of its own reduced tolerance and suffer more damage in daily activities. At this point, the role of crutches in reducing the burden becomes very prominent. The reasonable use of crutches can transfer a significant portion of the weight to the upper limbs, which reasonably distributes the physical strength and reduces the wear and tear of the affected joint, and creates better conditions for rehabilitation. There are also some patients, due to the lack of lower limb strength, caused by gait disorders, over time, become a handicap, and even forget the correct way to walk, then the use of crutches can make the affected limb in the minimum weight bearing premise of the best possible gait reconstruction. After the function is perfected, the crutches are naturally taken off as progress is made, and only then can the crutches be said to have really played their proper role. Other patients with degenerative joints have difficulty moving around in their daily lives, and the use of crutches or a cane to minimize joint degeneration is the most important prerequisite for all treatments. As you can see, the role of crutches is very important, must not see it as a burden, function to, and then say goodbye to him. There are many kinds of crutches: axillary crutches, elbow crutches, crutches, hiking sticks, walking sticks, etc. are all good tools, and we recommend that you take them seriously. Remember: using crutches for a moment does not mean that you are a member of the Disability Association, the use of not using will push you faster to the Disability Association! 4, more activities in order to practice good function: this situation has been elaborated in many articles. Everything has a degree, too much is not enough, sometimes, excessive activity may cause increased damage to the affected limb, slowing down self-repair or even more serious additional damage that is difficult to compensate. Therefore, the principle of “reasonableness” should be given top priority before any activity. Reasonable effort to have the ideal harvest. Otherwise, not only half the effort, but also may appear more serious additional injury, which will likely become very serious consequences. 5, strict braking good recuperation: this problem is also common in part of the patients, this part of the people (may be their own personality limitations, may also be no one taught) feel that only recuperation is the way to recuperate. In fact, the healing of the fracture, ligament self-repair, all need a certain, reasonable pulling and squeezing or other direction of stress stimulation, in order to complete as early as possible, so conservative face injury parts, a move afraid to move, is also a common situation, need to be alert. 6, functional exercises are much better: sometimes patients feel that functional exercises are much better, lest they practice lightly, lest they practice less, and they want to liberate the whole country one day, which is not right. This is not true. It is important to understand that functional exercises are not the sheet metal work of a mechanic, facing not an iron plate but a living organism. Functional exercises will cause stimulation to the body, and stimulation will cause stress, the human body’s reaction may be very violent, and excessive reaction may also cause more serious damage to the body, which is really more than worth the loss. It can be seen that the treatment of the human body, to be more gentle, according to the actual response at any time to adjust the treatment plan, if the state is not good, suspend the exercise rest is even the best plan, when the body says: “I want to rest”, must meet this request, step back sometimes will find more sea and sky high.
