Recently, our vascular surgery department successfully carried out a case of interventional sub-plaque removal system (SilverHarwk) to treat a patient with severe stenosis of the N artery in the lower extremity. The patient had intermittent claudication for several months, and the walking distance was only tens of meters. This case is currently treated with balloon dilation under intervention in China, and the long-term patency rate of balloon dilation treatment alone is not high because stents cannot be implanted across the knee joint. Director Liu Jie and the medical and nursing team of our vascular surgery department carefully analyzed the patient’s condition and formulated a treatment plan for the patient to remove the plaque in the N artery with the Interventional Plaque Removal System. After the surgery, the patient’s N artery was restored to patency and her symptoms improved significantly, and she was discharged from the hospital successfully. It is reported that this technology was approved by FDA in 2003, and only a few vascular surgery centers in China are using it. Our hospital has mastered and actively promoted the interventional intra-arterial plaque removal technique, which will benefit more patients with atherosclerotic occlusive disease.
