Tuberculosis hemoptysis

About 1/3 of people with tuberculosis will develop hemoptysis, and if hemoptysis occurs, the patient’s condition is critical and requires prompt hospitalization. Hemoptysis can lead to life-threatening risks such as hemorrhagic shock or asphyxia due to blockage of the airway by blood clots. Such patients need absolute bed rest in the affected side, timely symptomatic treatment such as hemostasis, and, of course, timely anti-tuberculosis treatment. Some patients may require interventional surgery and, if necessary, surgical removal of the entire lobe of the lung if internal hemostatic treatment is not effective.
