How to tell if it’s an impingement

Ingrown eyelashes are abnormal eyelashes that grow in a direction different from normal human eyelashes and grow backward, touching the eyeball, either 1-2 lashes or all of them, and can usually be judged by clinical manifestations. The tip of the eyelash or the entire body of the eyelash is attached to the eyeball or rubs against it, causing a foreign body sensation in the eye. Patients rub their eyes frequently for unknown reasons, causing eye pain, redness, tearing, photophobia, increased secretions, and in severe cases, even causing damage such as conjunctival congestion, corneal clouding, and corneal ulcers, which in turn affect vision. If the above symptoms occur, it can be initially identified as impingement, and it is recommended to seek medical attention for slit lamp examination to facilitate clearer observation of the eye condition and further clarify the diagnosis. There are three clinical treatment methods for impingement, which are as follows: 1) Extraction treatment: This means that you can remove it by yourself using sterilized cosmetic tweezers, and it will reappear within a few weeks and needs to be removed again. 2) Electrolysis treatment: This is mainly achieved by destroying the hair follicles and removing the impingement, sometimes it needs to be repeated several times to achieve the desired effect. 3.Surgical treatment: i.e., surgically pulling the inward turning lid margin outward to correct the condition of inverted eyelashes, suitable for patients with severe ingrown eyelashes.
