The vast majority of patients with otitis media need to receive surgical treatment. Mastering common sense and care precautions after surgery can help eliminate patients’ ideological concerns and spend their short post-operative life positively and optimistically. 1. After otitis media surgery, gelatin sponge is often used to fill the external ear canal to fix the graft membrane and external ear canal flap, but the gelatin sponge is similar to sticky glue, and patients will feel the sensation of running water in the ear canal after surgery. In addition, the incision in the ear will have an ant bite like intermittent slight itching sensation when it heals, which is normal. 2. It takes time to recover the gastrointestinal peristaltic function during general anesthesia for middle ear surgery, so you should eat easy-to-digest soft food for 1-3 days after surgery, and then gradually resume a normal diet. 3. Patients with otitis media generally have their stitches removed and the intra-ear filling drawn out 2 weeks after surgery, and should not lie on their side until then. Some patients may experience temporary loss of skin sensation in the auricle on the operated side, so be careful not to crush the auricle on the operated side when lying on your side for a long time. Avoid blowing your nose hard after otitis media surgery, coughing and sneezing with your mouth open, keeping your ears warm and dry, and not digging your ears with cotton swabs. 5. Patients with otitis media should avoid delaying the condition by treating the wound pain and progressive aggravation or the gradual increase of exudate from the ear opening, tinnitus or ringing in the ears that is worse than before surgery, headache and vertigo in a timely manner.
