In the clinic, we often encounter young mothers who come to us with the following questions: My child is 3 years old, is it normal for him to have a visual acuity of 4.5? My child is 5 years old, what should be the normal visual acuity? Generally speaking, since birth, the development of children’s visual acuity ranges from low to normal. The level of best-corrected farsightedness for children of different ages varies: 0.01-0.02 for those aged 2-3 months; 0.02-0.05 for those aged 4-5 months; 0.06-0.1 for those aged 6-8 months; 0.1-0.15 for those aged 9-12 months; 0.2-0.25 for those aged 1 year; 0.5 for those aged 2 years; 0.6 for those aged 3 years; 0.8 for those aged 4 years; and 1.0 for those aged 5 years and above. It is generally recommended that children over the age of 2 have their vision checked as early as possible to understand their children’s vision, so that parents can be aware of the situation and avoid missing the opportunity for treatment.
