I. Overview Congenital trigger finger of the thumb, also known as congenital stenosing tenosynovitis of the thumb, is a common congenital malformation. Parents often present to the clinic because they find that the affected child cannot actively straighten the thumb. The narrowing of the annular ligament of the metacarpophalangeal joint at the level of the seed bone and the spindle-shaped swelling of the thumb long flexor tendon are the main pathologic changes that cause this deformity. Second, the diagnosis is that the interphalangeal joint of the thumb is flexed, active extension is limited, passive extension can occur with a popping sound, the child cries because of pain, and it is not possible to hyperextend the interphalangeal joint of the thumb. A hard nodular mass can be palpated on the palmar side of the first metacarpophalangeal joint, especially when the thumb interphalangeal joint is passively extended and flexed. It may develop unilaterally or bilaterally at the same time, often with varying degrees of severity. Third, the treatment of light symptoms can be observed and gentle massage, with Luoyang Orthopaedic Hospital’s seven beads of tendon spreading San or Pingle spreading tincture, some can gradually relieve themselves. For cases that cannot be relieved and the deformity is heavy, surgery is the only effective method. The sheath is transected or partially removed until the interphalangeal joint can be fully flexed and extended passively without popping or impingement. The results are generally satisfactory with early postoperative activity.
