Our department has recently introduced one of the world’s most advanced NIM-NEURO2.0 intraoperative nerve monitor. This instrument can provide precise navigation for complex thyroid surgery and make the revealing of the recurrent laryngeal nerve more convenient and more accurate.
Injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve has become one of the serious complications of thyroid surgery, which not only seriously affects patients’ quality of life, but also has become the main cause of doctor-patient disputes at this stage. At present, the average annual volume of thyroid surgery in our hospital is more than 1500 cases, and the number of patients with difficult and serious cases and complex secondary surgery is increasing. In order to prevent the injury of the recurrent laryngeal nerve more effectively and avoid the possible injury of the recurrent laryngeal nerve due to surgery in time, so that the rate of permanent injury of the recurrent laryngeal nerve is reduced to zero. Professor Sun Hui led the thyroid surgery research group to create the “three steps to find multiple points” of the recurrent laryngeal nerve in previous thyroid surgeries, and combined with intraoperative nerve monitoring technology to ensure the functional integrity of the recurrent laryngeal nerve based on the conventional visual identification of nerve integrity. Zhang Chunhai, Department of Thyroid Surgery, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Jilin University
From March to July this year, 132 cases of complex thyroid surgery have been monitored intraoperatively in real time, and satisfactory clinical results have been obtained, without a single case of laryngeal nerve injury. At present, this technology is only available in a few key hospitals in China. The successful implementation of this technology in thyroid surgery fills the gap in the eastern provinces, broadens the direction of thyroid surgery treatment, and is in line with international standardized treatment, which greatly enhances the reputation of the thyroid department and our hospital in the field of thyroid surgery nationwide.
