First, patients with grand mal seizures should be helped to lie down slowly to prevent falls or bruises, and collars and belts should be loosened to facilitate the patient’s breathing. If the patient has a prolonged seizure, send him/her to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. Turn the patient’s head to the side during a seizure to allow secretions to escape. Some patients may talk nonsense, walk around aimlessly, cry and even hurt others during or after seizures, and the best thing to do is to let the specialist handle the patient quickly and not to tie up the patient.
