How long can you live with a cancerous gastric ulcer?

Most gastric ulcers become cancerous when atypical hyperplasia occurs on top of the ulcer. The effect of cancer on life expectancy mostly depends on the depth of cancer infiltration. If the cancer infiltrates into the mucosal layer and mucosal muscle layer of the ulcer, it is called carcinoma in situ and can be considered for endoscopic resection, which does not have any significance on life expectancy. For cancer that infiltrates into the submucosal layer and intrinsic muscular layer, along with lymph node metastasis, although the infiltrative resection is given, the impact of life expectancy is more obvious with the presence of metastasis in other parts such as liver, most of them will be affected to about 3-6 months or 1 year. In some cases, if liver metastases are more pronounced, or if there are multiple liver metastases or intra-abdominal lymph node metastases, it is possible that the life expectancy is 1-3 months. Therefore, the impact of malignant ulcers on life expectancy depends on the degree of malignancy, the presence of other lymph node metastases, and specific analysis of the problem.
