Pigmented nevi in the oral and maxillofacial region can be divided into intradermal nevi, junctional nevi and compound nevi. Intradermal nevi are the most common and usually do not become malignant; junctional nevi are less common and more likely to become malignant; compound nevi are more common in children and can become malignant. Most nevi on the face do not need treatment, and if they affect the beauty, they can be removed surgically or by laser. However, if a mole appears to be erosion, deepen in color or grow rapidly, malignant change should be suspected and should be treated as soon as possible. Preventive excision can be done for easy to rub parts such as lips.
