Umbilical cord velvet is a relatively common disease in children, but there are many people who do not recognize this disease, and I have prescribed a maximum of twenty-six-year-old patient, and surprisingly no one had diagnosed it before meeting me. Umbilical velvet manifests as a small red fleshy ball in the middle of the umbilicus that secretes some mucus, usually not much, without much smell, the mucus is slightly yellow and will bleed a little if rubbed. Sometimes the umbilical granuloma also looks like this, but the color of the umbilical granuloma is not so red and will disappear on its own soon after stopping the use of iodophor or iodine, or there are very large cases that need surgery. It is best to operate on the umbilical cord, but the procedure is very simple and is usually done on an outpatient basis, with local anesthetic drops, and the operation usually takes 5 minutes. The cost is currently about 500-600 RMB in our hospital. Personally, I think other methods such as silver nitrate and gentian violet are not effective.
