Common eye diseases, clinical manifestations and treatment for infants and young children with excessive “eye stool”

The most common eye diseases that cause excessive eye discharge in babies are neonatal lacrimal sacculitis and acute conjunctivitis. I. About neonatal dacryocystitis The cause of neonatal dacryocystitis is that the nasolacrimal ducts are not ducted after birth, resulting in blockage of the nasolacrimal ducts, and tears cannot enter the nasal cavity through the nasolacrimal ducts from the eyes and remain in the dacryocysts. The symptoms are reduced or even disappear after the antibiotic eye drops are used, but after a period of discontinuation of the medication, the eye stool will appear again, and when the inner corner of the eye is squeezed, a bunch of secretions will emerge locally. How to treat neonatal lacrimal sacitis? 1) If there is a lot of secretion, you can first use your fingers to regularly compress the lacrimal sac area (i.e.: from the lower lid orbital margin between the inside and the eye downward pressure), after several times of pressure, then point antibiotic eye solution such as Tobias eye water, 3 to 4 times a day; 2) If there is no secretion, you can just local massage, the same method as above (i.e.: from the lower lid orbital margin between the inside and the eye downward pressure). Adhering to the massage, most neonatal lacrimal sacculitis can heal on its own with age and generally does not require surgical treatment. If the child does not heal on its own after the age of half a year, lacrimal tract exploration can be considered (lacrimal tract exploration is very simple and does not require hospitalization). Second, about acute conjunctivitis If your baby has a lot of eye stool that has only appeared in the last few days, and if the eyes are red and obvious, there is a high probability of acute conjunctivitis. The cause of acute conjunctivitis is inflammation caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses that infect the conjunctiva. If the child has conjunctivitis, if it does not affect the child’s play, not accompanied by tears and photophobia, the inflammation has not yet involved the cornea, you can use local antibiotic eye drops or antiviral eye drops spot eye; if accompanied by photophobia, tears, afraid to open the eyes, there may be lesions involved in the cornea, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. Note: Conjunctivitis is mostly contagious by contact, so it is important to pay attention to hygiene, develop the habit of washing hands regularly, and pay attention to isolation from others to reduce infection.
