What can you do when suffering from low back pain?

Abnormal problems need to be checked by a doctor. If you have numbness in the saddle area, severe weakness in the legs or diaphoresis, you should call your doctor immediately. Rest in bed It is helpful to get into bed and rest as soon as possible, without getting up, for two to three days. In some cases, your doctor may want you to lie down for a few more days because of leg pain, but lying down too long can make you less fit and have other bad effects. The most comfortable resting position is usually lying on your back with your knees elevated on a blanket or pillow. Another position is to lie on your side with your knees bent and a pillow between them. Cold and hot compresses The first 48 hours are suitable for cold compresses. To avoid frostbite, ice packs wrapped in towels can be applied for 15 to 20 minutes every hour. Some people also prefer to apply ice directly to the skin. After the second day, hot compresses are used. Some people prefer to use a moist heat heating pad and care should be taken to prevent burns, while others prefer to use hot water bottles or microwave gel packs to avoid electromagnetic radiation from the heating pad. Avoid constant cold or hot compresses. A relief position If your back is in a relaxed position for a short period of time, you may get relief quickly. Lie on the floor and place your lower legs and feet on a low table, thick cushion or low chair with a pillow or cushion to raise and add comfort. The thighs should be nearly vertical, with a thin pad or towel under the buttocks (not the back) and a small pillow under the head.
