The normal range of blood pressure in older adults is defined as a systolic blood pressure that is between 90-140 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure that is between 60-90 mmHg. Above the normal range of blood pressure is hypertension, or critical hypertension. Below the normal range of blood pressure, it is called hypotension. Blood flowing from the heart to the blood vessels throughout the body produces a pressure on the walls of the blood vessels called blood pressure. The heart beats with two processes, systolic and diastolic, so blood pressure is divided into systolic and diastolic, and abnormal blood pressure means that the arterial blood pressure is more or less than normal.
