Cholesteatoma otitis media is one of the more serious cases of chronic otitis media and must be operated on as early as possible. The purpose of surgery is twofold: removal of the cholesteatoma lesion is paramount; on top of this, reconstruction of hearing can be considered at your discretion depending on the condition of your auditory chain. The greatest risk of surgery is the occurrence of facial paralysis, but in my experience, this risk can be greatly reduced. Therefore, there is no need to worry too much about surgery to the point of fearing it… after all, it is the way to a complete cure for this disease!
