Thirty-six years of chronic illnesses cured once and for all

Le XX, 36 years old, has had poor eyesight since childhood and has worn thick glasses since she was a child, and she cannot live without them. She works as a seamstress in a garment factory. Recently, as she gets older, she can’t see the style of clothes more and more clearly. Although her life is stable, her eyes have always been a problem for her. With anxiety, she came to the Excimer Laser Center of the Sixth Hospital for consultation. After a patient and careful examination, the doctor found that the patient’s condition was very complicated. She had a mixed astigmatism of up to 550 degrees in both eyes. Combined with the age-related loss of accommodation, the patient was completely unable to perform long hours and close work. The patient strongly requested to have her glasses removed, and the only viable option was to have excimer laser surgery. However, the procedure is extremely difficult. Despite the risks involved, it is the sacred duty of every ophthalmologist to “serve every pair of eyes and care for every ray of light”. We conducted a detailed examination of the patient; discussed extensively within the department as a difficult case; and fully communicated with the patient to obtain a detailed understanding of the patient’s condition and acceptance of the surgical plan. Overcome all kinds of difficulties and try to reduce the risk of surgery. After detailed and thorough preparation, the patient underwent “individualized laser subepithelial keratomileusis with wavefront aberration guidance in both eyes”. With excellent technique and joint efforts, the surgery was very successful. After two weeks of post-operative recovery, the patient’s vision was restored to 0.8 in both eyes, which really exceeded the patient’s expectation. The surgeon also reserved 50 degrees of myopia for her in advance. Now she feels very comfortable and clear when she sees far and near.
