Surgical treatment of hyperparathyroidism in the presence of renal dialysis

Recently, Ms. Wang visited our general surgery department because she heard that we have a lot of experience in parathyroid surgery. Ms. Wang has been suffering from kidney failure for many years, and she needs kidney dialysis twice a week to get by. In the last six months, she developed itchiness all over her body and joint pain. The examination revealed that it was caused by hyperparathyroidism. She came to our department and after close preparation, the diseased parathyroid glands were successfully removed. Immediately after the surgery, her symptoms were significantly relieved and the parathyroid hormone level in the blood quickly dropped to the ideal level. She was successfully discharged from the hospital one week after the surgery. Ms. Wang was very happy. Many patients on long-term kidney dialysis develop hyperparathyroidism. And drug treatment is not effective. If left untreated, there will be serious consequences. Parathyroidectomy is an effective method to treat this disorder. Since this surgery is not carried out in many units in China, many patients do not receive timely treatment.
