The importance of self-measurement and self-management of hypertension

With the medical observation of many years of research found that the best control mode of hypertension patients is self-measurement and self-management of blood pressure under the guidance of professional doctors, this mode has been unanimously promoted by various authoritative organizations in the international cardiovascular community in recent years, such as the American Heart Association / American College of Cardiology (AHA/ACC), the European Society of Hypertension / European Society of Cardiology (ESH/ESC). For most people, blood pressure in the day will show a certain pattern: in the morning 6 to 8 a.m., waking up after the morning blood pressure will generally have a significant increase, is the highest blood pressure time of the day, known as early morning hypertension, is also a variety of cardiovascular complications such as stroke, myocardial infarction high incidence of time; throughout the day blood pressure is at a relatively high level, after the rest time after lunch blood pressure has fallen, 4 to 6 p.m. Blood pressure rises again, is the second blood pressure peak of the day, after which there is a slow downward trend, and is at its lowest point at night when sleeping from 0 to 3 pm, and then tends to rise again. However, there are many people who will have different fluctuation characteristics, while blood pressure fluctuations are also affected by a variety of factors. Self-measured blood pressure has more readings than hospital blood pressure, which can reflect the actual blood pressure situation of the patient more comprehensively and accurately, and can distinguish the “white coat effect”. For patients taking antihypertensive drugs, it can evaluate the effect of antihypertensive drugs, guide the reasonable time of taking medication, monitor the response to treatment through the change of blood pressure after taking medication, understand whether blood pressure is fully controlled, whether the dose needs to be increased or decreased, and observe the relationship between blood pressure and symptoms, physical activity, emotional changes, mental tension and other situations. Therefore, self-testing of blood pressure and self-management of hypertension are particularly important. Blood pressure measurement time: measure in the morning and before meals, make a good record, and preferably adhere to long-term monitoring better. It is best to rest for 15 minutes before measurement and avoid emotional excitement, exertion, smoking, holding urine, etc. Take two measurements each time with an interval of 1 minute and take the average value.
