How to choose a treatment for epilepsy?

The main treatment for epilepsy today is medication. But the best way is not to take a few times or a course of treatment and all the diseases will be cured quickly and never need to be treated again. In reality, there are many people who would like to have this miracle cure, and if someone claims to have a “miracle formula” that can “cure” them quickly, there are many people who believe it. The effectiveness of a treatment method can only be determined after a large number of cases and a certain amount of time of observation and control, and after scientific statistical processing, especially for epilepsy treatment. This is especially true for the treatment of epilepsy, because each person’s condition varies greatly, as does the frequency of seizures and the presence or absence of other comorbidities. If a person is treated by a certain method and does not have a seizure for a few days or a few months, it does not mean that the treatment is effective. It is also not objective to say that a certain method is effective after curing a few patients, because many epileptic patients may heal themselves without treatment. The most common drugs used are sodium phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine and valproic acid, which have a positive antiepileptic effect with few toxic side effects when applied appropriately. 80% of patients can be controlled satisfactorily with regular use of these drugs under the guidance of an experienced physician. The actual fact is that these are not identical, but there are differences in their indications, which are more specialized and should be chosen under the guidance of a specialist. Some patients, after taking a drug to control their seizures, have no side effects for several years, and they want to look for some kind of “magic pill” that they can take 1-2 times without having to eat, and they have taken the drug for several years without side effects, and they ask the doctor if the drug has any side effects. This kind of people are sometimes laughable, because they always think subconsciously that there must be side effects when taking anti-epileptic drugs. Such patients should be very lucky, because a small number of them have tried various drugs and their seizures cannot be controlled. After taking the drugs for several years without side effects, if they continue to take them regularly, no serious adverse reactions usually occur again. Undoubtedly such a drug or therapy is the best approach for this specific patient. As mentioned earlier, the commonly used drugs, are about 80% of the patient’s condition under control, but the indications for each drug are not exactly the same, and a drug that works for someone else may not work for you, or may even aggravate the condition. Because each person’s condition is not exactly the same.
