What to do if you have insufficient blood supply to the basilar artery

Inadequate vertebrobasilar artery blood supply can resolve on its own, and its treatment is aimed at eliminating the cause, preventing or reducing recurrence, and protecting brain tissue,. The main methods are as follows: 1. Etiological treatment: Treatment is directed at the etiology and predisposing factors to eliminate the source of microemboli and hemodynamic disorders. For example, hypertensive patients should control blood pressure below 140/90mmHg, and those with diabetes mellitus with hypertension should control blood pressure at a lower level (<130/85mmHg); to effectively control diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia (so that cholesterol <6.0mmol/L and LDL <2.6mmol/L) and other diseases. 2. Prophylactic treatment: Anti-platelet aggregation agents are available to reduce the occurrence of microemboli, and aspirin 100mg is commonly used and taken orally after dinner. Atrial fibrillation patients use anticoagulant drugs, such as warfarin, etc. Use vasodilators and volume expansion drugs to dilate blood vessels and promote the establishment of collateral circulation. Use nimodipine etc. to protect brain tissue. 3.Surgical treatment: For patients with vertebrobasilar artery stenosis greater than 70%, if the effect of antiplatelet aggregation therapy and anticoagulation therapy is not good or even deteriorates, surgical treatment such as endovascular intervention, endarterectomy surgery or arterial bypass surgery can be chosen. There are more treatment methods for vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency, which should be applied after interview with a neurologist.
