Staging of frozen shoulder

Most people who have never had frozen shoulder think that frozen shoulder is just an inflammation of the shoulder joint, so they just need to take some medicine, get a shot and get rid of the inflammation. If you think so, then you are very wrong. It’s true that frozen shoulder is not a life-threatening disease and has a tendency to heal itself, but the pain it causes can’t end in just a few months. The course of frozen shoulder is long, ranging from a few months to as long as 2 years. Clinically, frozen shoulder is divided into three phases: 1. Acute phase, also known as the adhesion phase. This is the initial stage of frozen shoulder, which lasts for about 1 month, sometimes up to 2~3 months. The main clinical manifestations are pain in the periapical region, which can be dull, stabbing, cold or sore, aggravated at night, even affecting sleep, and normal or mildly restricted functional activities of the shoulder joint. 2.Adhesion phase Also called freezing phase. The duration of this period is 2~3 months. Shoulder pain is less severe than before, but still painful and heavy. The functional activities of the shoulder joint are severely restricted, and the range of motion in all directions is significantly reduced, with abduction, external rotation, forward flexion and back extension being the most significant. The pathology of this period is characterized by reduced aseptic inflammation, heavier adhesions, and the most obvious symptoms of activity limitation. 3. The remission period is also called the recovery period. The duration of this period is 6~18 months. Shoulder pain is obviously reduced, or even only soreness and discomfort occurs, shoulder joint mobility gradually increases, and the patient may have a tendency to heal himself. The pathology of this period is characterized by the basic disappearance of aseptic inflammation, the gradual release of periapical adhesions, the gradual reduction of painful adhesions, and the healing of the disease.
