Can pancreatic surgery be tolerated by patients? Is a pancreatic fistula scary?

The general public would think that pancreatic surgeries are all major surgeries with many complications, big blow to the patient and slow recovery. One of the most common complications is pancreatic fistula, because the pancreatic fluid secreted by the pancreas is highly corrosive, and once a pancreatic fistula occurs, it can lead to abdominal infections and other negative consequences. So, how to minimize the complications of pancreatic surgery? There are some lessons and techniques involved. Here’s an article I wrote in ’08 that focuses on pancreatic surgery techniques to minimize pancreatic fistula. With continuous improvement, the incidence of pancreatic fistula in our center is now below 10%. So, pancreatic surgery is not so scary.
