Knowledge about implant prosthesis

As the preferred restoration method for patients with missing teeth, implant denture restoration has a series of features that are superior to other veneers, and is gradually gaining favor and praise from the majority of patients. Our hospital has been carrying out implant prosthesis for more than ten years and has accumulated rich experience. We have introduced ITI implant system and Replace implant system. The following are a few questions about implant prosthetics that are often asked by patients with missing teeth. 1. What are the main advantages of implant dentures? Compared with traditional dentures, it is less or even eliminates the abutment on traditional removable dentures, which makes patients feel more beautiful and comfortable, and has good retention and stability, and patients can quickly adapt; chewing effect is greatly improved than traditional removable dentures. Under normal circumstances, there is no need to do any preparation on the adjacent natural teeth, which maximizes the protection of the healthy adjacent teeth. 2. What is “dental implant” about? Dental implant – implant denture is a dental implant (artificial tooth root) that is surgically screwed into the alveolar bone of the missing tooth, and then a beautiful and natural metal porcelain crown or all-ceramic crown is attached to the artificial tooth root. It does not require the removal of healthy adjacent tooth tissue, nor does it require brackets and clasps, and the bite force is directly transmitted and dispersed to the surrounding jawbone through the implant, which is able to bear a large bite force. Such dentures are firm and strong in the mouth, and patients not only feel comfortable, but also chewing efficiency is significantly improved and the aesthetic effect is ideal. Implant dentures are even known as the “third set of teeth” because they are very similar to natural teeth in terms of support, function, feeling, shape, and use effect. 5. Is it possible to have a full mouth without teeth? Yes, as long as there is a sufficient number of well healed implants, a full denture can be supported by fixed means. Generally, 6 to 8 implants are needed to provide sufficient support for a full denture (single jaw); for those who do not have enough bone in the jaw to place enough implants to support a fixed full denture, an overlay implant can be designed to support a full denture, usually one implant is placed on each side of the jaw equivalent to the cuspid. 6. Before the surgery, it is best to do blood tests, hepatitis B, syphilis, HIV, electrocardiogram, etc. X-ray examination of the height and width of the alveolar bone and the position of the maxillary sinus and inferior alveolar nerve canal to determine the type, number, position, direction and length of the implant so that the surgery can proceed smoothly. Implant surgery is divided into immediate implant, delayed immediate implant and delayed implant. The advantages of immediate implantation are: reduction of the number of surgeries, prevention of alveolar bone resorption and shortening of the treatment time. If the natural tooth root does not match the shape of the implant, artificial bone powder needs to be placed. The restoration can be done after 3 to 6 months after the surgery. The advantages are: it facilitates the closure of the incision, reduces the chance of infection, prevents alveolar bone resorption, and shortens the treatment time. The implant can be restored after 3 to 6 months after the surgery. Extended implant surgery is performed 3 to 6 months after the extraction of the tooth. The basic surgical steps are as follows: (1) The implant is placed in the alveolar bone under local anesthesia during the first-stage surgery, and the healing cap is exposed in the oral cavity; only a few patients require a second surgical exposure for treatment. (2) Three to six months after the first-stage surgery, the implant is inserted into the superstructure to facilitate the placement of the tooth, and a metal porcelain tooth is taken. 7. What are the discomforts during and after the implant surgery? Modern anesthesia techniques and good post-operative care measures can minimize the discomfort of the patient. During the healing period, it is necessary to pay attention to the timely cleaning of the wound area and to avoid chewing hard objects. Many patients feel that the discomfort of implant placement surgery is less than that of tooth extraction. 8. How long can dental implants last? The success rate of dental implants is 95% for five years and 90% for ten years, and there are reports of dental implants that are still intact after more than thirty years of use. 9. Are dental implants expensive? The cost of dental implant restorations varies depending on the product and technology, and is usually high. However, it is a worthwhile investment for you to change your face, improve your chewing effect, and improve your quality of life after the implant restoration. 10.Can I have implant prosthesis if I have insufficient bone? Yes, various bone defects in the oral cavity can seriously affect oral health and its treatment, and the low alveolar ridge can also affect the effectiveness of implant prosthesis. The promotion and application of Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) and autologous bone grafting in clinical practice has solved this problem very well.
