Patients with paralysis are prone to constipation. Doctors, caregivers, and family members should encourage patients to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, drink a large glass of warm water every morning after getting up, and perform appropriate training and exercise to develop the habit of defecating on time. For patients who have severe constipation, they can be given medications to promote defecation, such as mannitol, phenolphthalein tablets, and lactulose, all of which can be used to laxate the patient. In addition, for patients with urinary retention and paralyzed patients with urinary incontinence, intermittent catheterization with a sterile catheterization kit or indwelling catheterization is required. Keep the patient’s perineum clean after catheterization, disinfect the urethral orifice twice a day, and also release urine regularly, not 24 hours a day without closing the urinary catheter, but regularly close and release urine, and encourage the patient to drink more water.
